On Saturday, I and my son took a road trip to Philadelphia, PA. We went to a museum,
then we went to find something to eat. The area was a college area. It had universities, hospitals, fraternity houses, sorority houses and tons of food carts with every kind of food you can think of. I planned on eating at this place based on the location and the reviews.
Upon arrival it was obvious that it was a college hangout.Yes we were in a college area, as previously stated but they also have more upscale-family restaurants as well. They had tables and chairs outside and two doors. Going inside on the right was the bar area which led to the hostess. We got a table right away. The decor was eclectic Posters, guilars and other items were on the wall. Similar to TGIFriday decor. The table had 5 types of sauces all varying in degrees of heat. The usual accessories..salt,pepper..etc. They also had a roll of paper towel in a holder on the table. Which said to me that they are an informal,l relaxed, neighborhood place with unashamed comfort.
Our waitress came over. Took our orders and served us readily. We gotten our seats
just in time because it got really crowded. Our food came and it looked very good. The catfish po boy was crispy and well seasoned. It was so good my son that when my son took a bit he thought it was chicken. The potato salad was made with red potatoes and had a nice tang to it.
The thing on my plate I didn't like too much was my chicken rice. It came cold. It was way to oily
and spicy and to top it all off the rice was under cooked.
Such a disappointment because I love rice.
My son loved his food. I tried some of his mac and cheese one of his favorite dishes. Upon initial taste it was good. Then as you finish the first bite you noticed just how cheesy it was. It has way to much cheese in it. That overbearing, gagging, nauseating amount of cheese. Also I noticed they used blue cheese. Which normally is okay but when used minimally They probably used it for tanginess, creaminess and to break up the monotony of cheddar cheese. It didn't really work. It was borderline between I hate it and I like it. If you kept eating it you'll continue to teeter on the edge.
The service was acceptable but when I was ready to pay my check the
waitress was no where to be found. Which in this case is I gave her a
pass because it was really busy. Tables were filling up fast which is a good thing.
That means that people like the food and atmosphere.
Only upon leaving, is when we noticed that the other door on the left led directly to the
dinning room which we could have gone though and saved a tour going through the
restaurant to get to a table. Oops.
Would I go again? Yes. Only for the food.
I also like it because many different people of different races and ages were
able to comfortably enjoy their time there.
